SIGGRAPH 2008: DMN visits Autodesk
Autodesk updates a host of effects tools
Probably the most crowded booth at SIGGRAPH 2008 was the Autodesk booth. It wasn't just that the booth was right inside the front door of the show floor, its also that Autodesk is probably one of the largest companies in the digital content creation business, and certainly the largest in the effects business. In May, this big company became even bigger when it acquired RealViz.

Where Will You Store The Rushing Waves of Content?
The Internet, Web 2.0 and our relentless need to express ourselves has created a growing volume of content. The challenge is where do we store it? Why should we store it? Does anyone really care about it?

SIGGRAPH 2008: DMN visits Frantic Films
Chris Bond discusses Krakatoa and Deadline
What a Hollywood success story Frantic Films is. From a two person effects shop in Winnipeg to one of the top houses in Los Angeles. Frantic Films has won Emmy's and worked on films such as "Swordfish" where the facility's ball bearing explosion got them noticed in a big way.
SIGGRAPH 2008: DMN visits VICON/House of Moves
Company shows latest mocap stage
I certainly have been a fan of motion capture for many years. When Vicon invited me to visit its facility, House of Moves at SIGGRAPH, I jumped at the opportunity. Going to visit the industry's top player was a must do.
Cinnafilm HD1: Real-time Film Simulation System shown at SIGGRAPH 2008
Cinnafilm does much more than what most of the 'film grain plugins' we've been using
At SIGGRAPH 2008, I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Lance Maurer from Cinnafilm about its product, Cinnafilm HD1. The Cinnafilm HD1 is a film simulation and frame rate conversion system based on a Windows XP Media Center PC that has been in development for more than five years.
SIGGRAPH 08: DMN visits Wacom
Wacom shows the Cintiq 12WX
There's a great line in the movie "Wuthering Heights" where Lawrence Olivier says to his dying love "I can not live without my love, I can not die without my soul." As my 10 month old son decided to destroy my Wacom grip pen, these words came to mind. Since getting the Intuos 3 tablet I have used nothing else in my work. Sadly I found myself a bit stymied trying to use the mouse once again.
