Canon 50D DSLR camera
The new Canon 50D offers a good step up in performance and features from the camera it replaces
I just finished testing the new Canon prosumer DSLR, 50D and its one nice camera. It offers many improvements over the previous model, the 40D. Its easier to use than the 40D, is the same size, actually weighs less yet outperforms it in almost every category. For the price ($1,399- just $100 more than the list price of the 40D when it was introduced last year) the 50D offers a a whole lot more bang for your buck.

After Effects War of Gears: Expressions
Setting the rotation offset based on main gear rotation
We covered the ability to make gears in the earlier tutorial, but using the shape layer repeater allows for it to rotate in one direction. In this tutorial, we'll set up a secondary gear to rotate in the opposite direction so that the gears' teeth will mesh together.
Toon Boom Animate

In this series of reviews, we will take a look at the many facets of the latest software from Toon Boom: Animate.
After Effects CS3 Level 2: Motion blur and reducing flicker
In this training video, host Jerry Leer covers motion blur and reducing flicker. He discusses how text might act upon the screen and how to reduce flicker of text by adding a blur to the text. He says that anything that moves should have a little bit of blur on it. He discusses several options to soften the text, including applying blur to all the layers in the project or turning on motion blur which is built into After Effects.
Adobe Fireworks CS4
What a difference a version makes
I have a confession to make. While I covered the initial announcement of Adobe Fireworks CS3 in the spring of last year, I never followed up with a full review. Why? Because, frankly, there wasn't much to it. It seemed like a quick port, done under duress and ultimately boasting only a thimbleful of largely forgettable features, not to mention the seemingly halfhearted attempt to give Fireworks a new purpose as a prototyping tool. The good news is that the situation couldn't be more different with the latest version of the former Macromedia stalwart, so let us count the ways.
