Content ... Keeping the Old Gals Around for a Few More Years
It's great to see all the new capture, production toys at NAB. The camera, production board, software folks have the content people -- Katzenberger, Moonves (CBS), Carey (News Corp), other major/minor players -- huddling around all their new high def and 3D stuff every minute the show floor is open. The lights go out and all that content is sent back to the lowly under appreciated storage systems. But then no one ever said making it in the content industry was going to be easy.

IMS Research just reported that the digital signage market racked up about $4 billion in sales last year performing well even during the downturn and with a projected growth of 20+ percent over the next three years. Great news for all of the partners/players. Problem is many organizations still use PCs as signage controllers. Does the job lots of the time but they also suffer from the common ailments of PCs...malware, unscheduled updates, blue screen. A better and more economic solution is a controller made specifically for networking (or local use) and non-PC based.
