Netflix Slumps after Its Content Provider Partnered with Amazon
Netflix shares had the biggest drop in 6 weeks, sinking as much as 11% intraday. Its video content provider, Viacom owned company Epix, exclusively provided videos to Netflix since 2010, but the elusive clause expired 3 days ago and Epix decided to add Amazon to the partnership list. Epix owns rights to many motion pictures from Lions Gate, Paramount and MGM and will add more than 2,000 titles to Amazon's Prime subscription in 2012, raising Amazon's overall selection to more 25,000 titles. Epix's non-exclusive contract with Netflix has less than one year to go and we'll see if there will be an extension. Netflix unlimited streaming service costs $7.99/month and now has 27 million subscribers. For more news and analysis follow us on twitter @fnnonline or check out our website at fnno.com.
